Sights & Scenes Around Bruges, Belgium

LEARNING LIVING TRAVEL

I visited Bruges, Belgium on my 2016, Scandinavian Cruise.

A leisurely moment in front of The Provinciaal Hof, a Neogothical Building on the market place in Bruges.

The Belfry in Bruges, Belgium is a medieval bell tower located in the Bruges market square.  The gothic architecture is unbelievably beautiful, even though certain elements  are gothic revival…It feels like a step back in time.  Interestingly, in the middle ages, belfry’s were observation posts to spot fires and other dangers.  The bells also regulated city life.  Bells were a way to notify city dwellers of the time, fire alarms, work hours, social, political and religious events.  Today there are some 47 bells in the tower.

The Church of Our Lady is a Roman Catholic church which dates back to the middle ages, as well as its Gothic architectural style.  It’s brick tower is over 400 feet tall and is one of the tallest brick towers in the world.

The Basilica of the Holy Blood is located in Bruges square.  And its architecture is Romanesque Gothic.
